“No pare, sigue, sigue”

PERFORMER. CHOREOGRAPHER. CREATIVE.

Bio

Hola!

José (he/him) grew up in the Republic of Panamá, where he developed his passion for the arts and the diversity within them. Mom is a teacher and choreographer, who raised him and his sisters around rehearsal rooms, theaters and stages. Inevitably, they soon joined her on-stage and on-screen on Panamanian children’s television show, "La Torre de Los Sueños”. He continued his journey as a dancer, training in breakdance and hip-hop, and performing with Beat Entertainment. At age 14, he performed in his first musical, “Don Bosco, el Musical”. Enamored by the experience, he continued to perform in musicals all through high school and in several professional stages around the country, including Teatro Nacional de Panamá, Musicalion, and Verano Canal. At age 20, he realized theatre was more than a hobby for him, decided to change majors, and went on to pursue a BFA in Musical Theatre at Florida State University. In 2024, he graduated, signed with Clear Talent Group, and has since worked in professional stages across the U.S such as The Muny, Signature Theatre, and New Amsterdam Theatre.

José is also a song-writer and choreographer. He is a creator and story-teller at heart, something he shares with his mom. He has choreographed in Panamá for artists such as Dome, Edward Allen, and Andre. For events such as the AFUTPA Awards, Teletón and Verano Canal. And he has been the choreographer for Blast AIP, a youth theatre club, for the past 5 years. However, most of his favorite choreographic projects were presented across stages in Tallahassee, Florida, on and off-campus, during his time at Florida State University. As a song-writer, he has worked with artists such as CarmenC. For musicals, he wrote lyrics for “Callar Jamás”, a musical that tells the history of La Prensa, one of the most prominent newspapers in the country. Created for democracy, in times of dictatorship, it takes us through Noriega’s dictatorship, the U.S invasion, up to present-day Panamá.

What’s Poppin?

After closing a successful and joyful run of In The Heights at Tony-Award winning Signature Theatre, José went back to NYC, to perform with R.evolución Latina at UPFRONTS25 for Televisa/Univisión.

He is now home, in Panamá, enjoying family time and working as Associate Director on a production of Beauty and the Beast Jr. for Blast AIP, among other projects.

He is most excited for his upcoming Theatre Performance & Creative Intensive. Where performers and creatives will refine their craft through 7-days of classes and workshops, culminating in a showcase featuring original material from students. In collaboration with writer, director, and friend, Nic Evans. Join us from July 21-27!
